Service Above Self is Rotary's principal motto, which means that every Rotarian is responsible for finding ways to improve the quality of life in their community and in those communities around the world through service.

This column will periodically feature ideas for projects that the Rotary Club of South Orange can be involved in on the local level. If you have any ideas, please feel free to make a suggestion and we will add your idea to this column. The goal will be for our club to take on some of these projects - the more we do outside of our meeting room the more people will be aware of what Rotary is all about.

COMMUNITY FOODBANK OF NEW JERSEY:

Several years ago members of the Rotary Club of South Orange and their family members spent an afternoon at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, packaging toiletries that had been donated and that would be distributed throughout the state. In recent years the Rotary Club of South Orange has participated in food drives and has donated school supplies to the Community FoodBank. In 2010 nearly 27,000 volunteers visited the Community FoodBank. Typically all volunteers must be at least 12 years old, except on designated Family Days. In the coming months the family days are on Sundays September 11 and December 4 from 1:00 pm to 3 pm; Saturdays June 25, July 23 and August 27 from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. If any members are interested in donating a couple of hours to volunteer at the Community FoodBank in Hillside, contact Janice at Jteetsell@aol.com.
