FRIENDLY FIRE OF ROTARY

·         Professional demands are different today than they were in the earlier years.
Some of us in the older generation need to give some leeway in our by-laws to meet the demands of the new generation.
·         You enjoy being in Rotary but never ask someone to share in your joy
·         80% of all Rotarians have never sponsored a new Rotarian – I can’t imagine that 80% of Rotary don’t have friends.
·         By publicizing/promoting what you are doing you have an opportunity to attract new members.
·         Friendly Fire: members who always greet a new idea with “we can’t do that”  or “we’ve never done it that way before”
·         Friendly Fire: Those who sit in the same seat each week – not sitting with others – cliques
·         Consider whether or not Rotarians who left your club thought it was a waste of time or it lacked Rotary substance
·         Are we living up to ethical and moral standards expected of Rotarians?
·         Do we value the time of the guest speaker?
·         Is the Club President prepared?
·         If I didn’t already belong to this Rotary Club would I join?

The speech was directed towards new Governors, but it’s message is just as potent for club presidents.  PRIP Dochterman advised that the District Governors do not issue edicts – neither do club presidents. Club presidents were advised to sit down with members who have slacked off to find out what is happening.
